Bauxite is a sedimentary rock with a relatively high aluminium content. It is the world's main source of aluminium. Bauxite is the
primary ore of aluminum.  Almost all of the aluminum that has ever been produced has been extracted from bauxite.

Most of industries start production based on the raw material - Calcined Bauxite. Calcined Bauxite is the principal ore of  Aluminium,
composed mainly of hydrous aluminium oxides and aluminium hydroxides. These minerals are Gibbsite, Boehmite and diaspore.
Bauxite is formed through lateralization of aluminous rocks. This bauxite is heated at a very high temperature to get Calcined bauxite.

Calcined Bauxite is a very durable material with high crush resistance. It has been widely used as below:

Refractory Grade Calcined Bauxite  : To make refractory grade, Bauxite is thermally treated at 1600 oC to produce Calcined Bauxite
where the Alumina content is mostly above 82%.


Brown Fused Alumina, Proppants and Road Surfacing : To make the above grades, Bauxite is thermally treated at 1000 oC - 1200 oC
to produce Calcined Bauxite where the Alumina content is anywhere between 80-88% depending on the requirement.

Production Technical Process                                                                                                         

Bauxite is the principal ore of aluminum. 

1.  The first step is to crush the bauxite & purify it. 

2.  In the purify process, the bauxite is washed in a hot solution of sodium hydroxide, which
     separates aluminum from the bauxite.

3.  The aluminum is precipitated out of solution in the form of aluminum hydroxide, Al(OH)3.
4.  The aluminum hydroxide is then calcined to form alumina, Al2O3.
